My Internship? Journey

The first three months of my internship have now passed: time to look back on the first weeks in Telekom's corporate communications (COM). A quick glance at my notes reminds me more of a travel diary, as I have already traveled a lot in a short period of time– and for a variety of reasons. The first three months have now passed: a good time to look back on the first weeks of my internship at Telekom. A quick glance at my notes reminds me more of a travel diary, as I have already traveled a lot in a short period of time – and for a variety of reasons.

First stop: Hannover

In the second week of my internship, my journey already took me to Hannover to Telekom's hardware center. Telekom was the technology partner for the European Championship this year. The technology that was used in the stadiums was tested in the hardware center. We shot a video about this tech check, and I got to look behind the scenes.

Three weeks later, I left my desk for a huge event. This time it was not far away, only 10 minutes from the headquarters to the World Conference Center in Bonn. The occasion: the annual general meeting. Shareholders can ask questions here. During this so-called "general debate," I was able to support the back office. It was an impressive experience, as quick responses are required to answer the questions adequately and promptly.

It continues to Berlin, Frankfurt & Düsseldorf

In week eight, I am back on the train, this time to Berlin. My fellow intern Julien and I were on our way to the media camp. An event where media houses and companies exchange experiences with young people interested in this field through workshops and panel discussions. For two days, we had the opportunity to ask questions and listen to experienced journalists and media professionals. As an intern at COM, you get many opportunities to participate in both external and internal workshops and training sessions.

I took advantage of my stay in Berlin to meet my colleagues from the capital city representation in person. Adrian and Georg, whom I see every day via Webex, are regional press officers at Telekom and my project managers for the communicative support of network expansion. In this project, I am in daily contact with the core business, mobile and fiber optic expansion, and it is where I have my main tasks. Recently, we successfully launched our new WhatsApp Broadcast Channel "Telekom Netzausbau." For this channel, I prepare editorial content about news, challenges, and interesting facts about network expansion.

In week ten, our team took the European Championship as an opportunity to shoot some tourist tips in all EM stadium cities. This took me to Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. For these videos, I got to be in front of the camera for the first time. I was very excited, but I had an incredible amount of fun, and I have definitely discovered a new passion. You can check out the videos on Deutsche Telekom's YouTube channel.

Teammeeting in Fulda

The regional press team is spread across Germany to be present in every region. In week twelve, we met in Fulda to revise and update our press releases. It have been intensive hours where I got to learn from very experienced colleagues.

At Telekom, I can actively shape my workday. I receive the necessary support and backing to try new things. Team members always have an open ear, and I can ask as many questions as needed. Additionally, two buddies are assigned to us interns, to whom we can always turn. The perfect atmosphere to grow and lay a valuable foundation for a career. When I look back, I am happy how many valuable experiences I have already gained in such a short period of time. At the same time, I am excited and curious for everything the upcoming months have in store for me.
