Telekom Sets Up Digital Protective Shield for Clinics

  • Telekom presents a digital security package for hospitals
  • We in medicine: prophylaxis and aftercare for IT
  • Group shows solutions at the conhIT from 19 to 21 April in Berlin

“The most recent cyber-attacks on businesses, administrations and private persons by means of blackmail software, so-called ransomware, have also hit clinics. Therefore, we are setting up a digital protective shield for clinics,” explains Arndt Lorenz, Director of Sales and Marketing of Telekom Healthcare Solutions. “With increasing digitalisation, the stable and secure IT operation is becoming more and more important for hospitals. This is why we have put together a security package that also includes the necessary prophylaxis and aftercare beyond incident detection and reaction.”

Complete package for IT security
The complete security package covers overall four areas: prevention, detection, reaction and prediction of IT attacks. Prevention is an analysis of the status quo situation and the preparation of recommendations for action. Detection focuses on the security of end devices and firewalls. Telekom covers reaction, for example, by means of an “Incident Response Service”. Specially trained experts at Telekom support this service during and after an IT attack, in order to restore the operability of the systems. In the process, also evidence is collected that can be provided to the customer for passing it on to the investigating authorities. With the “Prediction Package”, clinics protect their network and IT systems in real time against professional hacker attacks. They detect attacks early on and initiate countermeasures, before hackers can cause damage. This is possible even with still unknown malware. Depending on the orientation and setting of priorities, the security modules are also available separately.

The IT Security Package of Telekom includes features that, due to their complexity, traditionally come to use at large corporate groups. Hospitals, however, not only profit in terms of contents but also financially from the scaling effects offered by Telekom. With pre-configured solutions – also out of the Telekom Cloud – clinics obtain state-of-the-art and appropriate protection for IT security from one source. Short implementation times round out the package. Telekom thereby provides hospitals with a practical toolbox also in view of the Public-Private Partnership for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures in Germany, UP KRITIS.

Telekom accompanies businesses into the digital world of tomorrow
The economy is digitalising at rapid speed and is networking the virtual with the physical world in the “Internet of Things”. Machines communicate with products, vehicles with the networked house or doctors via smartphones, tablets or wearables with their patients. As a partner of mid-sized businesses and corporate groups, Telekom offers a multitude of solutions for this purpose, and assists businesses in the implementation of their strategies on the path to new business models and accompanies them into the digital world of tomorrow.

Quality and service are the decisive criteria for corporate customers, even more so than the price, as a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers has shown. T-Systems has made big investments in recent years to reach high stability of IT systems and reliability of the offered services. This is confirmed by the TNS Infratest customer satisfaction survey of 2015: for the third consecutive time, T-Systems is in the premier league of the European ICT service providers with the most satisfied customers.

New digital solutions at the conhIT
Besides the IT security package, Telekom Healthcare Solutions will furthermore present products at the world’s largest healthcare IT trade fair, the conhIT from 19 to 21 April in Berlin, by means of which hospitals can optimise the quality of care and thereby offer better service to their patients.

  • The Secure Patient Portal gives hospitals the opportunity to communicate directly with their patients and thereby reduce waiting times, offer better service and streamline work processes.
  • In the eHealth Composite Platform, Telekom offers an “open toolbox” by means of which developers put together IT applications for healthcare simply according to the Lego principle.
  • New features in the hospital information system iMedOne® improve care planning and documentation, medication and cross-sector communication.
  • An update also available for the entertainment system Entertain for Hospitals. Patients at the hospital use the Entertain system with an app on their own smartphones, tablets or clinic devices. In addition, they can pay for services subject to charges conveniently online.

Telekom Healthcare Solutions will present further services and products at the healthcare IT specialised trade fair conhIT from 19 to 21 April in Berlin at stand B-101 in hall 2.2.
