Telekom and Daimler announce partnership for automotive online services

  • Telekom and Daimler to collaborate on connected cars
  • More convenience with new online services

Daimler AG is announcing a partnership with Deutsche Telekom that will promote the carmaker's planned launch of communications services in its motor vehicles worldwide. The collaboration is sharply focused on providing new online services and web applications for use in automobiles. Such services include real-time traffic information, mobility options, personal radio and access to social networks. Drivers can take advantage of all online services and their Mercedes-Benz apps - anywhere and worldwide - with the COMAND Online multimedia system. Telekom is developing the unique communications infrastructure required for this innovative solution from Daimler AG, with headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. In addition, Telekom will equip future Mercedes-Benz models with special machine-to-machine (M2M) SIM chips that will ensure adequate mobile transmission capacities. Horst Leonberger, head of the "Connected Car" business area at Deutsche Telekom, points out the significance of this development: "When buying a car today, people are interested in features that go beyond the horsepower under the hood. Customers also want to have innovative online services and fast Internet connectivity in their cars. We are currently the only provider offering a cloud infrastructure, services and connectivity - all from a single source. And with that expertise we give our customers intelligent mobility solutions for more convenience and safety on the road." Peter Häußermann, head of Electronics and Telematics at Daimler AG, says: "We are looking forward to working closely with Deutsche Telekom. The company is a strong partner that will boost our worldwide offering of mobile online services. This will be evident at CeBIT, where we plan to show our product highlights at the Deutsche Telekom stand." Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 5 - 9 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand C26. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
