Numerous studies predict a bright future for electronic books, magazines and newspapers. At the same time, the mobile terminal equipment segment is experiencing exponential growth. In light of this, Deutsche Telekom has joined forces with many publishers to develop a platform that gives publishers profitable marketing opportunities for their digital content. At PagePlace, the new online kiosk, it will now be possible to purchase and pay for digital newspapers, magazines and books on a PC, tablet PC or smart phone and read them at any time on a range of different devices. PagePlace is intended to complement traditional media usage. Deutsche Telekom will be making the new offer available to its existing customer base, which consists of 24.7 million fixed-network customers and 34.7 million mobile communications customers in Germany. These new business models will offer the potential for interesting bundles comprising of terminals, rates and possible content in the future. "PagePlace brings the traditional newsstand into the digital age," says Edward Kozel, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Deutsche Telekom. "It gives publishers a great opportunity to reach new target groups. We are providing a mature, manufacturer-independent and publisher-independent platform, without involving ourselves in our partners' customer relationships. We firmly believe that attractive, cooperative services like this are the best response to the challenges facing traditional media". PagePlace: one stop shop for all digital content PagePlace gives consumers more choice, greater convenience, and a so far unparalleled reading experience. All content that customers have purchased appears on their personal bookshelf so they can take their growing online library with them wherever they go.
