Big for small: T-Systems offers big data services aimed at smaller projects

  • Cloud-based big data services with dedicated developer support
  • Service is free of charge for AppAgile customers

Deutsche Telekom’s business customer arm is now providing the Small Volume Hadoop solution on AppAgile, the T-Systems’ development platform for readily available business applications and data analytics from the cloud. The technology based on RedHat’s Openshift Cloud platform is rapid, flexible, and affordable to use. The offering is tailored to projects with data volumes of up to maximum 9 terabyte in size. It is ideally suited to small data-science projects and for projects which should be implemented without any long-term tie-up of or investment in hardware.

Small Volume Hadoop is offered as a pay-as-you-go service on the basis of the T-Systems’ cloud platform. Through the combination of Hadoop and data-science and analysis tools, T-Systems offers its additional service Data Science Workstation that allows data to be analyzed and visualized immediately. Analysis tools such as R, Shiny, Jupyter, Hue can be used via self-service to access various data sources such as SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop. A dedicated developer supports the customers’ data-science experts in each case.

Small Volume Hadoop is available free of charge for customers already using AppAgile. For these customers, the billing covers just the cloud capacities used via AppAgile.

AppAgile is a modular platform-as-a-service offering that combines technical development platforms with readily available business applications from the cloud. With AppAgile, T-Systems provides preconfigured middleware services such as database servers, application servers, or web servers. These can be called up and used within seconds and scaled flexibly. The platform coordinates the operation of Java and data workloads, offers containers for in-house application developments, and Analytics-as-a-Service.

At this year’s Microsoft Award, T-Systems was chosen as a finalist in the “Open Source on Azure Partner of the Year” category with AppAgile.
