A cloud for all: Deutsche Telekom optimally positioned for data services from the cloud

  • Deutsche Telekom's cloud initiative for SMBs
  • De-Mail: kick-off for Deutsche Telekom's digital letter
  • Standardized cloud services at a fixed rate for corporate customers

Cloud services for corporate groups, SMBs and consumer customers are a key element of Deutsche Telekom's future strategy. The company is expecting demand to increase significantly across all customer groups. "We intend to offer impressive and secure cloud solutions for all," CEO René Obermann said on Monday. "Now that the trend toward everything going mobile is here to stay, services and applications are now being migrated to the cloud." The advantage for customers is that Deutsche Telekom has all the expertise needed to offer cloud services from a single source: bandwidth, storage capacity, computing power, applications, operating system independence and high security. The multi-year expertise Deutsche Telekom has gained in the cloud with its corporate customers is now made available to SMBs. As of mid-year, small and medium-sized businesses will benefit from the Business Marketplace: this platform from Deutsche Telekom is a partner eco-system and service portal at the same time - easy to use and attractively priced without the need to invest in additional IT resources. On the platform, Deutsche Telekom has organized various solutions by sector and added an all-in service offer, making it easy for SMBs to find precisely the services they require. Starting in the summer, these offers will be also available online for international customers. For the first time, Deutsche Telekom is offering its corporate customers standardized cloud solutions at a fixed rate. Consumer customers benefit from the Media Center, where they organize their photos, videos and e-mails in the cloud. Additionally, Deutsche Telekom will launch De-Mail: offerings for corporate customers which will be available immidiately. A cost-free trial phase will start in the second quarter for private and business customers. "A group-wide alignment and focus within Deutsche Telekom is adding momentum to our international cloud strategy. We have the entire expertise to deliver customer-friendly cloud services in a single company. This fundamentally strengthens our position," René Obermann comments. "We started early in the cloud market with T-Systems as a pioneer in 2005. We are now using the competitive edge and know-how we gained with our business and corporate clients for other smaller companies. Cloud services for all will take us one step closer to our vision of connected life." Deutsche Telekom expects cloud services to make a significant contribution to Group revenue in the coming years. Deutsche Telekom as the trusted cloud partner for SMBs The new Business Marketplace will provide small and mid-size businesses with access to a full range of services from a single provider. SMBs can rely on one single contact, Deutsche Telekom, for product-recommendations and easy-to-use service booking with single sign on through to billing and customer service.

Three early-launch partnerships have already been signed for the Business Marketplace:

  • In Germany, iMeet by Atlanta-based firm PGI is exclusively marketed by Deutsche Telekom and offers customers an online meeting room - without additional software, simply using the browser on their computer or their smartphone or tablet. A few clicks are all it takes to launch conference calls or videoconferences with up to 15 persons. At the same time, employees can work together on shared and secured documents.
  • Scopevisio is a CRM/ERP-application that helps companies with their customer management and financial accounting, and includes all required functions for business accounts. The solution helps marketing and sales with tasks ranging from offer preparation to invoice creation.
  • Clearpath Cloud Security takes care of security and offers protection from attacks from the Net, from viruses and undesirable content. Connections to the net are automatically filtered for malicious and critical content in the cloud. This protection is also effective for branch offices, staff in the field and includes mobile devices. No on-site hardware and no complex IT configurations and skills are needed anymore.

More services are continually being added to the Business Marketplace as part of a special partner and application-scouting program launched by Deutsche Telekom: the "Easy-to-Partner-program". The objective is to find and enable appropriate software solutions from various providers for use in the Deutsche Telekom platform. This can now be achieved within weeks and with on-boarding support from Telekom cloud specialists. Telekom is supporting the open cloud platform architecture OpenstackTM in order to ease the technical and on-boarding process of partners. Application upgrades and innovations are automatically incorporated within the Business Marketplace architecture. This enables SMBs to concentrate on their core business tasks, and easily being able to order IT to suit their individual needs whilst and only paying for services they actually use. Sandra O'Boyle, Service Director, Business Network and IT Services from Current Analysis commented on the new offer: "With its Business Marketplace, Deutsche Telekom brings leading and innovative software providers and SMBs together on a secure platform. Deutsche Telekom has understood that this customer group is now ready for cloud services but that it needs a strong partner and an easy-to-handle solution that is geared to their requirements." A closed pilot phase is due to start immediately. The Business Marketplace will be available as an online offer in German and English to international customers as of this summer. The range of services and applications will be continually extended over the coming years. Start of De-Mail At CeBIT, Deutsche Telekom is starting its binding De-Mail offer. Using De-Mail both private customers and enterprises can easily, securely, confidentially and verifiably send and receive news and documents. Telekom will start its offer for T-Systems’ corporate customers. The offerings for private and business customers will go live during the second quarter with a trial phase. Private customers will be able to register and install a De-Mail account, as well as receive De-Mails, at no extra cost from the end of August onward. Within this period sending of De-Mails will be free of charge. After a trial phase any private customer can send three De-Mails per month without an extra charge, thus ensuring the provision of customers basic needs. Any additional De-Mail will cost 39 cent. Business customers will benefit from significantly lower shipping prices through attractive packages or volume-dependent staggered bundles. Along with web-based De-Mail, they can also access their mail systems through a gateway. Until the start of the trial phase those interested in this service can reserve their preferred De-Mail address via www.telekom.de/de-mail. More than a million people have already made use of this offer in Germany. De-Mail package offers for major and business customers Offers for corporate customers will be available from March 6 onwards. Deutsche Telekom offers this customer group special De-Mail service bundles with staggered prices depending on volume. These also include bundles combining De-Mail and traditional postal letters, enabling Deutsche Telekom to take care of customer's complete correspondence. For traditional postal shipping and delivery, Deutsche Telekom will work together with partners like TNT. Corporate customers will receive access to De-Mail within a matter of days via central e-mail gateways. TelekomCloud for consumers: open for all devices and platforms The TelekomCloud for private users offers 25 gigabytes of free storage on the Net for private photos, music, e-mails and videos via the Media Center. The Media Center can be used on all operating systems such as iOS, Android and Windows Mobile, and with all Internet-enabled devices such as PCs, smartphones or tablets as well as on TV sets with Entertain. Pioneer for corporate customers T-Systems' corporate customers already have access to a dynamic, all-inclusive service (infrastructure, platforms, software) from a single source. Around a dozen standardized cloud services are now even available at a fixed price, for example:

  • Dynamic infrastructure, for example, additional server capacity to cope the peak loads including storage from 9 eurocents per hour (server "small" with 512 MB RAM, 36 GB storage, platform availability 99.5 percent);
  • Management of mobile devices from 6.95 euros per device and month, including high availability and central application management.

Almost 80 percent of T-Systems' new SAP business alone now comes from the cloud. Since 2009, the dynamic SAP business increased by a double digit rate - in 2011 the growth rate reached more than 30 percent. The Deutsche Telekom subsidiary has received the first SAP Cloud Certificate to be awarded worldwide from the company in Walldorf. However, business corporations are also innovating in areas other than traditional enterprise applications: for example, Daimler and Shell both use solutions from T-Systems' high-security cloud for communication among employees all over the globe. Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 6 - 10 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand D26. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
