MagentaSport will broadcast the 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup

MagentaSport will broadcast the 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup from China – live and in high definition – from August 31 through September 15, 2019.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in China this summer and Deutsche Telekom will be broadcasting the tournament live and in high definition. Viewers of MagentaSport can watch all 92 games free of charge. After the draw today, we now know which teams are in which groups. Germany, with its star player Dennis Schröder, will meet with the Dominican Republic, Jordan, and France in the preliminary round.

"With the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China, MagentaSport is offering another exclusive sporting highlight – and one that is free of charge for all its viewers," says Henning Stiegenroth, head of Sports Marketing at Deutsche Telekom. "92 live games, and of course all the games of the German team – no one offers more basketball than MagentaSport."

For the first time, 32 teams will contest the 18th FIBA Basketball World Cup, which is set to take place August 31 through September 15, 2019. The best eight teams of the tournament will automatically qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games alongside host nation Japan.

After playing strongly in its qualifying games, the German national team reached the finals of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time since 2010. Led by coach Henrik Rödl, the team lost its final qualifier, only narrowly missing out on taking first place in its group.

As Rödl comments: "We are flying to the World Cup full of confidence. And, with MagentaSport, we know that basketball fans across Germany will be supporting us." Ingo Weiss, president of the German Basketball Federation (DBB), believes the World Cup in China is in the very best of hands with its media partner: "MagentaSport is a reliable partner for DBB – and that will be no different with the World Cup in China. We are pleased that our attractive sport can be watched by the broad public and that all the World Cup games will be broadcast live and free of charge."
