The Supervisory Board of T-Systems International GmbH chaired by René Obermann has today appointed Dr. Markus Müller as Director of the new "Telekom IT" unit. Dr. Müller thus also takes over as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Deutsche Telekom. "Markus Müller is an IT professional through and through," said Reinhard Clemens, Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Systems. "He has mastered the art of walking a tightrope between efficiency and innovation, and has a great deal of international experience under his belt. I firmly believe that we have gained a first-rate manager for the new Telekom IT unit and I am delighted he is joining us." Dr. Markus Müller studied computer science. He comes to Telekom from his post as CIO of Allianz SE, the holding company and global headquarters for the Allianz Group. Since 2000, Dr. Müller has held a range of managerial positions in IT at Allianz and was Chief Operating Officer, IT at Dresdner Bank. Prior to this, he spent five years with McKinsey & Company in Germany and the United States. He earned his doctorate at the University of Passau. Dr. Markus Müller is married and lives close to Munich with his family. In December 2011 the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Telekom passed a resolution on merging the IT departments of all Deutsche Telekom's business units with a total of around 8,500 employees into Reinhard Clemens' board department. The aim of reorganizing IT within the Group is to make Deutsche Telekom more competitive and allow innovation to be realized more rapidly.
