Deutsche Telekom is building faster internet connections for millions of customers. Over the last four weeks, Deutsche Telekom has been increasing connection speeds to up to 250 Mbit/s (megabits per second) for 3,315,000 lines. The number of lines with speeds of up to 250 Mbit/s alone has grown during this short period by 2.9 million, giving a total 8.9 million. The number of lines with up to 100 Mbit/s has increased by another 415,000 lines, through retrofitting with vectoring technology, e.g. in former development areas.
The task of maintaining and developing the network is a central part of our intelligent network management. This network management effort is guided both by the technological opportunities available and by customer wishes. It forms part of Deutsche Telekom’s core competencies. Developing the network with the aim of achieving a gigabit society is a clear goal of the company. The ground work to reach this goal is provided by Deutsche Telekom’s own constantly growing fiber-optic network. After all, the nodes that link the customer to the core network need to be connected using optical fiber. That is the only means by which data can be transferred at the required high speeds.
People everywhere are reaping the benefits of DT’s efforts
And the figures reveal yet another of Deutsche Telekom’s strengths. The company is far more active in Germany than any other provider. From north to south and east to west, from the big cities to the smallest communities, people everywhere are reaping the benefits of Deutsche Telekom’s efforts. This time several hundred thousand of lines are being upgraded in Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt. Yet in each of the villages of Grünsfeld, Gumtow and Kaub, for example, the work benefits just a couple of dozen users.
But interested customers should note that they will need to be on the right rate plan to use the enhanced bandwidths. They can take a look at www.telekom.de/schneller (in German only) to check if their lines are ready for higher speeds. The advisors at Telekom shops and specialist outlets, as well as at the free hotline (0800 330 1000) can also provide the information needed.
