BusinessOnline: Deutsche Telekom presents new symmetric broadband Internet solution for business customers
Deutsche Telekom AG for the first time presents a broadband Internet solution for business customers based on the symmetric DSL technology (SDSL) at this year's CeBIT. The new access variant of BusinessOnline is mainly geared to SME customers handling their applications and transactions with high upload and download speeds via the Internet. The symmetric BusinessOnline variant will be launched with scaleable bandwidths of 256 to 2048 kilobits per second in the fourth quarter of 2002 and will be realised based on demand throughout the entire T-DSL roll-out area.
To cover the business customers- need for cost-effective broadband Internet accesses with speeds faster than T-DSL, Deutsche Telekom introduced BusinessOnline as a professional Internet all-in-one solution already in 2001, providing the T-DSL access with increased speed and additional features such as e-mail account, domain name and Web presence. At the same time, the customer is granted exclusive access to a business customer portal developed specially for BusinessOnline.
As for broadband application scenarios and data which are not only downloaded from the Internet but also sent via the Web, business customers meanwhile need higher upstream speeds. This is where the BusinessOnline variant with SDSL (Symetric Digital Subscriber Line) comes into play. With bandwidths providing up to 32 times the speed of an ISDN channel even upstream, small and medium-sized companies which want to outsource their Internet applications (Web, commerce, back-up, online, office services) to Deutsche Telekom, for example, will be offered a suitable solution in the future. Rapidly growing applications such as telecooperation or video conferences via the Internet are supported in an optimal way.
Unless Deutsche Telekom's existing BusinessOnline service, the SDSL variant is available as a pure network termination point for data communication and includes the required SDSL modem. The "BusinessCall" voice tariff option no longer applies. The SDSL variant of BusinessOnline is offered at a one-time lump-sum installation price plus a monthly speed-dependent charge. Subject to technical feasability (reachability), the scaleable bandwidth increase up to a maximum of 2048 kbit/s is free of charge and can be realised via an automated process. Based on free volumes and a volume-based tariffing in megabyte, the customer can virtually be non-stop online.
Deutsche Telekom's symmetric SDSL-based Internet solution is the ideal addition to the existing Internet portfolio. The company supports its business customers with respect to the rapid growth in the Internet business and enables the smooth use of broadband TIMES applications.
