In 2020, we made a strong commitment to a network without hate and exclusion and worked consistently to achieve our climate targets.
Our customers are already surfing in a green Telekom network today! However, we have not rested on this success. In March 2021, our Board of Management adopted new, even more ambitious climate targets: By 2025, we want to be climate-neutral in our direct operations and by 2040 in the entire value chain.
With our campaign "#TAKEPART – No hate speech", we set an example in 2020 against hatred and exclusion online and for more digital civil courage. And under the slogan "Gaming - where the fun stops," we are campaigning this year against the spread of hatred and incitement in online games.
In the special feature of our new Corporate Responsibility (CR) Report 2020, we present "On Cupid's Trail" - probably the first game in the world in which you can only reach your goal with love. And we take a closer look: Why computer games can be surprisingly healthy, what values games convey - and what can be done about spoilers.
But the topic of computer games is just one of many exciting topics that make browsing the report a varied and entertaining experience for everyone. For sustainability experts, we have also prepared detailed information and key figures in the "Management & facts" section of our CR Report.
Some highlights from the reporting period
We are there when society needs us
Our secure, stable networks enabled our customers to keep their distance during the pandemic and still be close to each other. Our employees ensured the best possible service both on-site at our customers' premises and from the home office. And we provided concrete help, from the Corona warning app to our commitment to the digitization of schools.
#GoodMagenta and #GreenMagenta
We make our sustainable range of products and services transparent with the #GoodMagenta or #GreenMagenta labels. We use them to show our customers which of our products make a positive contribution to environmental protection or digital participation.
We care for our planet
With our "We care for our Planet" environmental program, we are implementing measures to conserve resources, whether in our Telekom stores, in our products and networks, or in the area of mobility. For example, since the end of 2020, all new Telekom-owned products have sustainable packaging.
Strengthening employee commitment
More than 250 employees from around 45 locations in Germany are active as Green Pioneers. They promote awareness among the workforce for more sustainability in the workplace - in addition to their actual duties.
Commitment to diversity and inclusion
Commitment to diversity and equal opportunities has a long tradition at Telekom. In 2020, our CEO Tim Höttges was named Personality of the Year at the German Diversity Awards 2020.
