Some years back, in the business world, “wait for digitization” was a rather “fits-all” type of answer irrespective of what the actual question was. Now digitization is our multi-faceted reality. Regardless whether it concerns an online shop at a mountainous village in Greece, an insurance firm in Zagreb, a retail enterprise in Hungary, a state agency, or even a multinational bank. Digitization is happening all around us. We would do well to familiarize ourselves with it and use it to our advantage. If we don’t, eventually somebody else will.
So, how is digitization actually impacting businesses? Talking to clients across our European footprint, I am often asked to provide an answer to this; whether in one-on-one meetings or at big ICT events, like recently at the T-Systems Hungary Symposium, T-Systems Hungary being a member of Magyar Telekom Group. Indeed, as various researches indicate, there are some impressive facts and figures around it. Let me highlight here a few:
- By 2020, 25 percent of total consumer spending will be online, meaning we ‘ll be spending online every 4th euro,
- 20 billion devices will be connected worldwide,
- 67 percent of all enterprises will have their IT infrastructure on cloud-based solutions and
- 70 percent of the total workforce work will rather work mobile, according to various experts, meaning that work won’t be attached to a single physical place anymore.
“What is a digital mindset all about?” is another question that I deem meaningful to tackle. To lead in one’s line of business, it is important to acknowledge digital transformation not as an end-goal but rather as an ongoing journey. A journey towards growth. Acknowledging this is a matter of mindset.
