Tom Hillenbrand, born 1972, studied European politics, trained at the Holtzbrinck School of Journalism, and was a section editor at SPIEGEL ONLINE. His non-fiction books and novels, including culinary crime novels starring the Luxembourg chef Xavier Kieffer as investigator, have already sold hundreds of thousands of copies, have been translated into several languages, and have featured on both the SPIEGEL bestseller list and the Die Zeit best book list. He was awarded the Friedrich-Glauser prize for best crime novel of the year, among other distinctions, for his novel Drohnenland (Drone Country).
