Ranga Yogeshwar was born in Luxembourg in 1959. His father was an engineer from India and his mother an artist from Luxembourg. He spent most of his early childhood in India, where he attended primary school, and graduated from high school in Luxembourg.
He completed his degree in Physics at Aachen University of Technology (majoring in Experimental Particle Physics and Astrophysics) and then joined the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln television station in 1987, where he produced science programs.
He has been working as an independent journalist and author since 2008. He has won numerous awards for his work presenting various television shows. The University of Wuppertal awarded him an honorary doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology in 2009. Ranga Yogeshwar now counts among the leading science journalists in Germany. He received the German Television Award for his calm and informative reporting on Fukushima in October 2011. A small planet (20522) discovered in 1999 was named after him.
He currently presents the science programs "Quarks&Co" (WDR), Wissen vor 8 “(ARD) and "Die große Show der Naturwunder" (ARD) and is a popular guest on numerous talk shows. His books are bestsellers and have been translated into several languages.
Ranga Yogeshwar is married to Ursula Yogeshwar. They have four children together. He is particularly committed to innovation and education. He is a member of numerous boards of trustees and is involved in various social projects. He is, for example, a founding member of the Children and Youth Foundation in his home town of Hennef.
