Claudia Nemat, Board Member for Technology and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom, put the spotlight on Deutsche Telekom's motto and brand promise "Connecting your world" at the Mobile World Congress. This is important at a time when communication is needed more than ever. The recipe for this has three ingredients: intelligent networks, global platforms and Magenta AI. All to be found at the Deutsche Telekom booth - as tangible eye-catchers. You can see this and what else happened on the first day of the trade fair in our photo show.

Clear statement at the international technology trade fair: Claudia Nemat described a demonstration she took part in in Düsseldorf: "A demonstration against hate and discrimination." Against toxic ideologies that would destroy the foundations of peaceful coexistence as well as liberal democracies and the constitutional state. "The message: we must all stand up against this. Against hatred. Against exclusion." And further, with a view to the current Telekom campaign: "Human dignity is inviolable. 2024 needs more light. Let's all switch on the light." For example, 5G solutions such as "network slicing". Sounds technical, but it is very useful. Deutsche Telekom thereby provides specific network properties. For television channels for live TV broadcasts, for example. Huge amounts of video data have to reach the TV audience in real time and without outages. Live productions - such as in stadiums - often take place in locations with high network utilization. With many cameras in different positions. 5G will ensure that the very camera that the director selects for transmission always has the right network characteristics: optimized latency (response time in the network) and bandwidth for secure transmission. Sony and Telekom have successfully demonstrated this with the help of network APIs in joint tests. © Deutsche Telekom
Another highlight: 5G standalone with the "L4S - Low Latency Low Loss Scalable Throughput" feature. Claudia Nemat demonstrated in a video how this provides gamers, for example, with a special gaming experience. In Germany, DT plans to go live with 5G Standalone in the second half of the year. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
An example of global platforms: the tariff "IoT Business LPWA (Low Power Wide Area)" with Skylo. The scenario: Digital sensors record water levels in reservoirs and rivers or monitor livestock in pastures. The integration of mobile and satellite connectivity into the device helps.
The Danish robotics specialist Capra Robotics uses DT's connectivity and Swift Navigation. This ensures that the autonomous robots can be controlled in real time and with minimal deviation from the intended position. On show at the stand: the robot that cleans parks in cities.

With T-Mobile US, Deutsche Telekom is the only transatlantic telecommunications company. Claudia Nemat welcomed Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile US. He highlighted T-Mobile's network services in the USA, 5G standalone as well as network slicing, and how T-Mobile has covered mega-events such as the Super Bowl 2024 and the Formula 1 race in Las Vegas. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
Dominique Leroy, Member of the Board of Management for the Europe segment, provided a number of examples of solutions that are emerging in individual countries and are then being adopted by other Telekom national companies. For example, a voice assistant for the banking sector. Built with generative AI in Croatia and Hungary, it significantly reduces the waiting time for customers who call. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
Magenta AI: "AI is everywhere," said Nemat. In the networks too. From planning to expansion and protection. To give examples: Deutsche Telekom uses AI to identify the best routes for installation. A chatbot supports technicians in the office or on the road at construction sites. In short: AI helps to solve complex tasks. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
In addition to the networks, when talking about AI, DT is focusing on these areas: Firstly, raising awareness, for example with campaigns such as "Share with care" against deepfake, that is manipulated image or sound files. Secondly, commitment to the education and training of employees. And last but not least, its role as a pioneer in the industry - as the alliance with its partners in the Global Telco AI Alliance now underlines. A meeting was held at the MWC for this purpose. Telekom, the e& Group, Singtel, SoftBank Corp. and SK Telecom (SKT) want to establish a joint venture. Through the joint venture company, the five companies want to develop a large language model (LLM) tailored to digital assistants in customer service. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
In regards to the future, DT's motto is "AI for everyone". There is huge interest in its studies for app-free phones. An AI-based assistant replaces the countless apps on the smartphone. Like a concierge, the assistant understands the user's wishes and takes care of the details, such as responding to the voice command "Book me a flight to the quarter-finals". There is a lot of excitement about the prototypes at the stand. Here, high-ranking visitors take a tour of the stand to get a first-hand impression: Volker Wissing (right), Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport of the Federal Republic of Germany, in conversation with Tim Höttges. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
There was also great interest in the concept for the router of the future. The device will be more than just a connection genius in the corner of the room. To this end, the company brought three design studies to Barcelona, the series of which is entitled "Concept T" - operable with a natural voice and gestures. All this will also be enabled by clever AI. One example: "Concept View", a glass sphere with an avatar assistant that communicates with users - for example, about how the assistant has adapted the Wi-Fi at home to the habits of its owners. The study also examines how hologram telephony, among other things, could become a reality. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
"AI is here to stay and is a top priority for us. AI must be established in all areas of Deutsche Telekom in order to develop its full potential": DT's CEO Tim Höttges gave a speech to the industry association GSMA at the MWC. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
With the CEOs of other European telcos, Tim Höttges discussed trends in the industry. In addition to the priorities of the telecommunications industry, the panel spoke about the regulatory framework in Europe. On the panel: Margherita Della Valle (Vodafone Group), José María Álvarez-Pallete (Telefónica), Christel Heydemann (Orange) and Tim Höttges. © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann

Last but not least, EURO 2024 plays a role at the stand, especially at the Magenta Keynote. Claudia Nemat's guest: İlkay Gündoğan, FC Barcelona player and captain of the German national soccer team. He looked back on his impressions of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He was not yet a professional at the time, but he was fascinated by the way people from all over the world celebrated soccer. "I hope we will succeed with our team this year." © Deutsche Telekom / Norbert Ittermann
