The Cybersecurity Summit (CSS) will take place on May 29. The Summit is organized jointly by the Munich Security Conference and Deutsche Telekom.
This year's summit location is Tallinn, Estonia's capital. 150 high-ranking managers from governments, international organizations, companies, and NGOs will speak about the latest cybersecurity challenges from the perspective of foreign policy and security policy. The CSS will take place shortly before the International Conference on Cyber Conflict (CyCon).
International conflicts in the real world are increasingly being fought in cyberspace as well. This affects nation states as well as intergovernmental organizations. That's why Timotheus Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom AG, has called for an early warning and coordination system, based on the model of the World Health Organization (WHO), to combat dangers in cyberspace and treat them like epidemics. Höttges stated, "The international community has proven its ability to work together successfully, as the example of the World Health Organization shows. Why not apply these tools to containing conflicts in cyberspace, strengthening its resilience, and improving crisis management as well?"
Accordingly, the central themes at the Cybersecurity Summit include critical infrastructures as targets of hacker attacks, strategies against terrorist use of the Internet, and the influence of artificial intelligence and the IoT on the future of conflicts between nations. The Summit will also discuss playing rules for the digital age and the difficult search for Internet standards. Previous Cybersecurity Summits have been held at Deutsche Telekom's headquarters in Bonn in 2012, 2013, and 2014; in Silicon Valley in 2016; and most recently in Tel Aviv in June 2017.
