Every top athlete has the challenge to reconcile career and profession. This is why Deutsche Telekom, in cooperation with Deutsche Sporthilfe, offers job application trainings for athletes of Deutsche Sporthilfe. Deutsche Telekom has been a national sponsor of Sporthilfe since 2008. It supports career planning at an early stage.
The following athletes took part in the applicant training: Back row from left: Coach Tim Kummerfeldt, Matthias Sandten (26, shooting), Raoul Bonah (20, fencing), Sylvia Schulz (20, athletics), Falk Petersilka (21, judo), front row from left: Josephine Jacques-Andre-Coquin (29, Fencing), André Sanita (27, Fencing), Annegret Schneider (19, para-athletics), Jan Luca Karstedt (19, shooting) and coach Marco Baldauf.
At first it was the athletes' turn. It was about their objectives. What did the athletes expect from the day? Annegret and Raoul wanted to know how to incorporate their sporting career into their curriculum vitae. We need longer to study. In addition, most of the time we haven't completed any internships like our fellow students," says Annegret.
The key factor is: "Start small, but start," says trainer Marco Baldauf from the Employer Reputation & HR Marketing division. "You should start creating a profile and networking now. You can only profit from this later," Marco continues. "The more often you are seen, the better known you become.”
"The applicant training is designed so that you can apply to any employer," explains trainer Tim Kummerfeldt from the Employer Reputation & HR Marketing department. "In the application training course, we will deal with what is important to you, because it is your day, Tim continues. Tim tells the athletes that job shadowing will soon be offered in various areas at Telekom. "This gives you the opportunity to walk along for a day and get a closer look at what every day working life looks like.
André is particularly interested in how he can prepare for an assessment center. And what awaits you there. "After my sporting career, I would like to apply for a job at Deutsche Telekom," says André.
The break was also used for a lively exchange. "I'm interested in how I can present myself better in my professional environment," says Sylvie.
Josephine is a fencer in the French national team. She was a guest at the applicant training. Marco and Tim looked at her LinkedIn profile during the training.
It is very important for our athletes to plan their careers early after their careers. They need support. “We are delighted that the athletes have accepted Deutsche Telekom's offer of the job application training so well,” says Verena Braun, Manager Athleten-Förderung at Sporthilfe.
After the applicant training, the participants experienced the awarding of the junior athlete 2019 live as the crowning glory of an eventful day. The ceremony included the farewell of numerous top athletes who had finished their careers in the last few months. Lena Schöneborn gave the farewell speech in the name of all top athletes. She emphasized that the applicant training in 2012 was a lot of fun for her and helped her professionally.
