Anyone who is active on the Internet runs the risk of being deceived by criminals. Deutsche Telekom keeps an eye on what is happening online and informs customers about personal security risks. Why you should not ignore this advice.
In 2023 alone, Deutsche Telekom's security experts sent over one million emails and letters to customers to inform them that there is a security risk for them, for example because account or access data can be found online or because their devices are being used to send spam. Clicking on an infected link, accessing a malicious website - you can fall into the clutches of cyber criminals faster than you think.
To make the Internet safer for everyone, Telekom Security experts search daily for stolen access data, hijacked accounts and devices belonging to Telekom customers - and also look into the darkest corners of the network. Whenever they make a find, they inform the customers concerned. This service is free and does not have to be booked separately.
For example, you may receive an email from the Telekom security team, abuse@telekom.de, stating: "We have received information from security experts that at least one computer or end device is infected with a virus/Trojan."
This information is accompanied by a request to eliminate the security vulnerability. In critical cases, a connection can even be temporarily blocked for security reasons. The letter also tells those affected what to do in a specific case. And for anyone who is unsure whether the letter they have received actually comes from Telekom or who needs help, there is the security team at Telekom's Technical Customer Service. Call 0800 55 44 300 and the experts will be happy to explain step by step how to remove malware from your computer and smartphone.
If you receive a letter from us, be sure to take it seriously. You will prevent damage to yourself and make the network a little safer for everyone.
