VOLTARIS and Deutsche Telekom conclude a million-euro contract over five years for intelligent energy network

  • Framework contract for up to 100,000 meters
  • Installation and data transmission from a single source
  • Basis for the energy network of the future in southwest Germany

VOLTARIS, an expert in meter point operation, and Deutsche Telekom have concluded a framework agreement on a reading service for up to 100,000 energy meters. Telekom will install a communication box and, if desired, an electronic meter in households across Rhineland Palatinate and Saarland for VOLTARIS in order to communicate the recorded consumption data every quarter of an hour to VOLTARIS. This lays the foundations in southwest Germany for the energy network of the future. The contract has a term of five years and a volume of between EUR 500,000 and a two-digit million euro amount depending on its expansion.

"Since the beginning of 2010, energy suppliers are required to create electricity bills during the year and since 2011 additional variable rates. We are expecting a significant increase in demand for electronic meters" says Peter Zayer, Managing Director of VOLTARIS. "Our customers will benefit from the framework agreement - it will enable us to quickly and efficiently support more than 90 power providers. With our expert solutions, we are on the right path to the "smart" future", adds Karsten Vortanz, also Managing Director at VOLTARIS.

"Deutsche Telekom is perfectly equipped for introducing electronic meters: we have thousands of service staff across Germany, a nearly nationwide communication network and experience in dealing with bulk data which makes us the leading partner for the energy industry," explains Gabriele Riedmann de Trinidad, responsible for the Energy business area at Duetsche Telekom.

Electronic meters are a prerequisite for the intelligent energy network of the future. An overview of those feeding in energy and consumers makes it possible to automatically balance energy, which is increasingly being produced locally from renewable energy, with consumption. This Smart Grid also meets the future requirements for network quality.

Deutsche Telekom will be demonstrating its energy solutions from February 8 to 10 at E-world 2011, at stand 7-111 (hall 7).

Deutsche Telekom will offset all CO2 emissions generated by its stand by making additional investments in a climate protection project in Brazil.
