In a major push for highly secure cloud services, Deutsche Telekom and Cisco today announced their intent to enter into a new strategic partnership agreement.
The deal was announced today during a multi-national news conference broadcast from San Jose, California, London, United Kingdom, Bonn, Germany, and New York. The two companies outlined the deal: To start with,
For Deutsche Telekom, the partnership is an important building block in expanding its cloud business and in implementing its partnering strategy. "The cloud is global. However, if you want a strong foothold in the European market you need to be strong in Germany. The new partnership is a major step for Cisco’s plans to build the world’s largest global Intercloud, a network of clouds. "Cisco’s Intercloud uniquely position us to connect today’s world of disparate clouds in a seamless and secure manner, unlocking the full potential of cloud, and with it a new era in IT," says Cisco’s Rob Lloyd, Cisco’s president of development and sales. Cisco expects to invest over $1 billion to build its expanded cloud business over the next two years. The Cisco global Intercloud is being architected for the Internet of Everything, with a distributed network and security architecture designed for high-value application workloads, real-time analytics, "near infinite" scalability and full compliance with local data sovereignty laws.
