- eBIT: Deutsche Telekom presents new protection against DDoS attacks
- End-to-end concept begins with security from the Internet
With a new modular security portfolio, Deutsche Telekom now helps companies implement comprehensive protection against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. This complicated-sounding attack vector is launched by criminals against thousands of Internet servers every day, with the aim of making their services unavailable to their intended users. During a DDoS attack, a large number of computers is used to inundate a server with requests until it collapses under the load. They do not require any special knowledge, either, because easy-to-use tools are available on the Internet and even full attacks can be ordered inexpensively. This method is used, for example, to block online shops during strong sales weeks, to blackmail their operators. Deutsche Telekom is now putting a stop to these criminal activities for its business customers.
At CeBIT, the company will demonstrate protection against all kinds of possible DDoS attacks for the first time, using a one-of-a-kind method. For its new service, Deutsche Telekom aggregates its competency as a service provider with its capacity as a backbone operator, offering a solution that combines defensive measures in the customer's system with measures that take effect in the network. A solution deployed on the customer side already fends off a majority of the attacks, for example, protecting web servers, firewalls, VPN gateways, and applications in the customer's data center. Complementary actions in the Internet backbone stop all further attacks, even if they have a volume of several gigabits per second.
Deutsche Telekom has years of experience in the area of DDoS protection. It is now bundling this experience in a standardized, modular product portfolio for business customers for the very first time. While the on-site service is available to every customer, backbone-based protection is only available to companies that already subscribe to Deutsche Telekom services and are therefore connected to the backbone.
Experience our products and services live at CeBIT from March 16 - 20 at the Deutsche Telekom stand in hall 4, stand C26. Deutsche Telekom's entire presence at the trade fair is carbon-neutral: All CO2 emissions generated in setting up and operating the stand are offset fully by carbon-reduction projects abroad.
