Two leaders of the communications industry have agreed to partner up. With more than 230 million users, Twitter is one of the most popular social media companies. Deutsche Telekom is one of the leading telecommunications companies with 140 million mobile and 31 million fixed network subscribers worldwide. Now the two will form a strategic partnership. "Twitter shows how lively a communication in 140 characters is. We experience this in our daily dialogue with our clients for example via our customer care account 'Telekom hilft' (engl: Telekom supports). With the cooperation with Twitter we will reach even more people in the future even better," says René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom. "If you want to know about the latest topics you’ll find the answers on Twitter. Twitter connects. Just as we do." In Germany Deutsche Telekom already is the most known telecommunications company on Twitter. An even advanced and unique user experience that both partners are aiming to develop now will further strengthen this position. "When important moments happen in Europe, the conversations about them happen live on Twitter. We are delighted to be working with Deutsche Telekom to make it even easier for their customers to share those moments," says Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter. In collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, Twitter will create a unique experience for Deutsche Telekom devices. This experience will include a way for people to keep up with Twitter right from their homescreen, and Deutsche Telekom will make it available on selected Android smartphones starting next year. Deutsche Telekom customers will have instant access to what’s happening in the world in real time, right out-of-the-box. Deutsche Telekom will be a preferred partner for Twitter when it comes to innovative marketing, advertising and customer services opportunities on Twitter. The collaboration will initially cover Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Greece and Croatia.
